This year’s Safety Conference will take place on Tuesday, October 2, 2018 from 8 AM to 3:30 PM at the Frank J. Pasquerilla Conference Center in downtown Johnstown. The Early Bird Registration for vendors is open until September 7th for a low price of $175. All vendor registrations after September 7th will be $300.

JARI and Penn Highlands Community College are hosting a training course on Basic Industrial Electricity. There are 12 seats available to companies who may be interested in participating. Details on the classes are listed below and the course outline is attached.

Location: Penn Highlands Community College, Richland Campus

Dates and Times: The first session is scheduled for the week of September 17 and the second session is scheduled for the week of September 24.

  • Classes will be held from 8:00am to 12:00pm, Monday-Friday over a 2 week period.

Length of Training: 40 hours

Certificates of completion will be provided .

Provider: Pennsylvania Highlands Community College

Instructor: Mr. Stan Kieta, President, REAL Controls, Inc.

Cost / Participant: For 8 participants, the cost per person will be $1,000. If we have 12 participants the cost will be $900.00 per person.

Connecting Local Talent

JARI is facilitating Open Discussion Forums for defense industry employees displaced in 2018. The purpose of the forums is to provide re-employment and support services to participants as they transition into employment.

We invite employers and agencies to attend one of the meetings to discuss support services and job opportunities. Also, we could utilize the skills of human resource professionals and subject matter experts to review and offer tips on resumes, job search resources and interviewing skills.

Participants include individuals that have experience in the following occupations: human resources, graphic design, contract accounting, risk management, contract administration, infrastructure analysis, financial analysis, executive assistance, administrative assistance, contracts administration and government liaison. Each participant has skills, education and experience that may transfer into a number of different industries.

What’s So Cool About Manufacturing Student Video Contest

Catalyst Connection, which has been helping regional manufacturers grow their businesses for 30 years, celebrated the What’s So Cool About Manufacturing Student Video Contest at the University of Pittsburgh’s Johnstown campus on Thursday, March 23. The program focused on getting students out of the classroom and into the manufacturing environment. The event attracted more than 175 people, including manufacturers, industry leaders, students, teachers and parents.

For the video content, 8 manufacturing companies were paired with 7 middle schools from Cambria, Indiana and Somerset counties who were encouraged to interview employees and go behind the scenes to learn about the manufacturing industry. Each team submitted its video to Catalyst, and voting took place on dreamitdoitpa.com. The contest yielded more than 48,000 votes over a five-day period.

Upcoming Community Resource Fair

Bridging Cambria County, a Vision2025 initiative, will be holding a free community resource fair on Thursday, April 12 from 5 PM to 7 PM at Greater Johnstown High School.

The purpose of the resource fair is to provide residents with information on a variety of topics such as social services, education assistance and job seeker services. All agencies, organizations, and service providers who offer services or programs within the Greater Johnstown/Southern Cambria County region are welcome to attend! Click here for flyer details.

JARI Announces 2018 NAP Tax Credit Program

JARI leaders announced their Neighborhood Assistance Tax Credit Program (NAP) for 2018. Administered by the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development, the details were released during a press event at JARI Headquarters in Downtown Johnstown on Tuesday, January 30.

JARI will receive $67,000 to provide a 200-hour welding training program to 25 unemployed/underemployed individuals residing in 4 neighborhoods located in the City of Johnstown: Cambria City, Coopersdale, Morrellville and Oakhurst.

Manufacturing companies require workers who complete some type of post-secondary education that includes industry-specific credentials. Five manufacturing companies in Cambria and Somerset Counties currently have openings for more than 150 welders. One of those companies, J&J Truck Bodies, is currently seeking 40 welders according to Shawn Kaufman, Director of Human Resources. The program will enable participants to acquire the skills needed to obtain employment in jobs that pay a family-sustaining wage.

Contributors to the 2018 NAP program include: 1st Summit Bank, First National Bank, Northwest Bank and Somerset Trust.

Area Residents Gain Information at Community Resource & Job Fair

Greater Johnstown United Neighborhoods and Vision2025 hosted a Community Resource & Job Fair on Wednesday, November 8th at the Christ Centered Community Church in downtown Johnstown.

Many area residents attended the job fair in hopes of gaining useful information and leads on potential job opportunities. There were approximately 140 available job openings featured at the fair as well as representatives from various agencies that provided information on a variety of topics such as education assistance, job seeker services and more.

This event was coordinated by JARI and the PA CareerLink – Cambria County. A special thank you to our exhibitors in attendance: JARI, Goodwill of the Southern Alleghenies, PA CareerLink – Cambria County, Lifepoint, Shared Business Services, JWF Industries, Veteran’s Community Initiatives, Inc., United Way of the Laurel Highlands, The Learning Lamp, Qualfon, Firehouse Subs, Alleghenies Unlimited Care Providers, Peerstar LLC and Crown American Associates.
